The exhibition Beyond the Line is the result of a constant search for new paths in graphic art. It presents the works of artists from the Czech and Slovak Republic who are active on the art scene in the Ostrava region and are related to the graphic design studio. Their work connects the past with the present and builds on the rich tradition of graphic art, with a special reference to a significant personality of this medium – Eduard Ovčáček, a pioneer of graphic experimentation and visual innovation.
The exhibition explores printmaking as a medium that extends beyond its traditional forms and into other disciplines, materials and spatial installations. Beyond the Line reflects printmaking's overlaps into three-dimensional space, digital technologies and multimedia installations, opening up a new dialogue between classical art forms and contemporary innovations. Here, graphic techniques merge with new expressive possibilities, where the line ceases to be just a visual element and becomes a vehicle for ideas, stories and interaction with space.
Eduard Ovčáček's legacy is strongly present in this exhibition - his experimentation with form, typography and collage inspires new generations of artists to cross the boundaries not only of technique, but also of visual language itself. The artists represented in the exhibition continue in this vein, bringing works that reflect contemporary trends, but at the same time carry the spirit of the experimental approach that Ovčáček brought to printmaking.
The exhibition is therefore not just a showcase of random works, but a reminder of the constant search and reassessment of what printmaking as a medium means today and what its position is in the contemporary art scene.
